Relationship Development Intervention (RDI)

FACT’s Relationship Development Intervention program trains parents to guide their child in mastering complex problems and situations such as increased levels of uncertainty and unexpected challenges.

RDI’s primary focus is to restore or correct deficits in inter-subjective relationships, (how children learn to function in dynamic relationships as well as the 5 other core deficits of autism.

Unlike other methodologies, RDI does not teach scripted behaviors, but rather develops creative, dynamic abilities that will allow the child to make friends, live independently, and obtain satisfying employment.

RDI Requires Intensive Commitment. From Parents. From FACT.

In most cases, the parents will meet in the office with their professional consultant twice monthly, as well as, for twice yearly Relationship Development Assessments.

Parents then work on assignments created with the consultant. They video tape these, analyze them and upload feedback to the RDI LS system. Home visits and office visits with the child are arranged as needed.

Group meetings for RDI families will be held once a month. Fathers meet one month and mothers the alternate month.

Implemented and Assessed in 6 Month Cycles

RDI therapy is generally contracted for 6 month cycles with progress assessed. Basic costs for parent, parent/family/child RDI implementation is $85 per hour. Since much of the work is done by the families, the cost of intervention is much lower than therapist-based methodologies. RDI is a vendored service available through some Regional Centers. It can also be billed to insurance companies.
