The summer is a time when children with Autism can step out of the static rigidity of their daily lives and develop their dynamic personal interests. For children with Autism, summer is an opportunity to cultivate independence, friendships, and their creativity.

For over 15 years FACT Family traditionally offers children and young adults with Autism summer programming to discover themselves, empower their imaginations, and enrich their friendships in a supported environment. In particular, FACT Family has offered a week long sleep away camp that sets up chances for children and young adults to succeed. Based in Los Angeles, the camp is for children and young adults with Autism (ages 10 - 25) and their siblings. The campers experiment with their creativity through workshops including film making, photography, magic, animation, journalism, and music. They spend half of each day in their respective workshops and the other half of the day playing sports, swimming, and hanging out with friends. At the end of the week we put on a showcase and each workshop shares their projects and progressive talents.

Our campers return year after year to embrace the values of summer with their life long friends. As one camper puts it, “We may not see each other again until next year, but we’ll feel like it’s only one day apart.

In 2010, FACT summer camp will no longer be supported by the Regional Center due to the recent CA State budget cuts. Our summer camp program will continue by depending on donations and private funding. If you know of an individual, corporation, or foundation possibly interested in supporting FACT Camp please contact linda@factfamily.org to discuss potential funding and grant options.
